I say, call their bluff. Let them leave. In my opinion, anything forced is ugly. Better to set the tone of the relationship to be one where both parties are trying to find more ways to stay. Idealist? Maybe. But, definitely not going to chase after someone who is trying to break away from what should be a growing bond.
