Picking A Direction Beats Random Wandering

How much of an impact can a one degree change in the direction of your car’s steering wheel have? A life-changing one — that’s for sure.

One degree to the left and you might collide with a guard rail. One degree to the right and you might steer into another person’s lane.

Even when we try to drive straight, what we’re really doing is making a series of micro-adjustments over and over again, left and right, as we try to steady the car forward.

THIS is what forward actually looks like — it’s never a perfectly straight line. Or, maybe more precisely, it’s a long chain of very small straight lines that are connected top to bottom, that gradually lead in different (better) directions.
